I Want a Career as a Gaming Security Officer
Gaming Security is a rapidly growing area in the private security industry. Gaming Security Officers (GSO's) are in high demand as the Casino and Gaming industry grows in British Columbia. Your main function will be to assist in the protection of Casino property, staff and customers.
Property protection may include the entire Casino complex, parking facilities, the gaming floor, and non-public areas. Access control will be your priority. Property may also includes the transporting and safeguarding of playing cards, cash or other convertible cash assets.
Role in the Community
You will provide security and customer service to Casino's and Gaming Centres in your community. You may be relied upon to assist law enforcement during emergencies.
A Typical Day
There is no typical day in the security industry. You will be required to be flexible and adapt to a variety of stressful situations.
Qualifications/Academic Requirements
Effective November 2007, all Gaming Security Officers must successfully complete the GSO course. This course is available online through the Justice Institute of BC. Your certification as a GSO provides you with the necessary skills and training to work security in a casino or gaming centre in the Province of BC.
Physical Requirements
Many security positions require you to be physically fit, some more demanding than others. As a GSO you may be required to stand and walk for extended periods.
