It is my pleasure to introduce you to an overview of the training we provide police officers in British Columbia. Police training has a unique role in Canadian society in that we have the task of transitioning private citizens into public police officers (recruit training) and training police officers in dealing with complex police topics (advanced training).

The Police Academy delivers recruit training for municipal police officers and advanced training for law enforcement. Our seconded experienced instructors pride themselves in providing experiential learning that uses practical simulations to train police officers. As well, we work with Municipal Police Departments in providing current and topical training for police members. We also provide pre-selection and promotion assessment centres which provide accurate evaluations based upon core competencies for screening so that only the best can be recruited and promoted.

As well, we provide training and certification for the security industry ensuring that private security officers are well qualified. We provide the regulatory quality assurance for security guards, gaming security officers, and gaming surveillance officers.

Our international programs provide contemporary police training to Saudi Arabia and China both at the Justice Institute of BC and their home country.

We also provide police applied research capability to the law enforcement community working with the Canadian Police Research Centre and other academic institutions.
