Eligible Borrowers

You can borrow from the Library if you belong to one of the following groups in B.C.:

  • Students (including online and distance) registered in JIBC Certificate, Diploma or Degree Programs
  • JIBC Faculty and Staff
  • B.C. Corrections Branch Personnel
  • B.C. Sheriff Personnel
  • Family Justice Counselors
  • Fire Fighters (Career, Volunteer, Industrial)
  • MCFD Youth Justice Personnel
  • Paramedics
  • Police Officers (Regular & Auxiliary)

Anyone attending short-term courses at JIBC, and, members of the general public are welcome to use the Library services on campus. In addition, print JIBC Library materials may be borrowed via interlibrary loan services at public, university or college libraries. 

Loan Periods

Books, Audio-CDs:  4 weeks, with one renewal if no Holds on item
DVDs:  generally 4 weeks (although loan period may be shortened if a DVD  is reserved for a certain date)

Requesting Items

Registered borrowers can place Requests on most items in our Library's online catalogue. Items that are exempt from this service are DVDs, Reference and Reserves.

Once you click on "Request Item", you will be prompted to enter your User ID and PIN. This is a specific User ID and PIN to our Library's lending system,  If you do not already have this information, please give us a call (604.528.5599) or email us.

When placing a Request, you can specify if you would like to pick the item up at our LIbrary, or if you would like the item mailed to you via Canada Post. 

If the item is currently checked out, your name will be placed in the queue. Once the item is available, it will either be mailed to your, or you will be advised that it is ready for pick up.

Students and Staff from Other BC Post Secondary Libraries

The Council of Post Secondary Library Directors (CPSLD) Reciprocal Borrowing Program extends borrowing privileges to all other CPSLD member libraries for JIBC students, staff, and other eligible borrowers. 

JIBC Borrowers

If you would like to borrow resources from a member library, please keep in mind:

  • You must follow the policies and regulations of the member library (SFU, UBC, Capilano University, etc.)
  • You are responsible for any fines incurred from borrowing resources at a member library.
  • You are responsible for returning items to the member library.  JIBC Library will not return these items for you.

If you’d like a CPSLD Reciprocal Borrowing card, please bring your ID to a Library staff member.

Other BC Post Secondary Library Borrowers 

Students, staff and faculty from member libraries can borrow from JIBC Library by presenting their home institution ID (with expiry date) or the CPSLD Reciprocal Borrowing Card. 

CPSLD member library users are allowed to borrow up to 3 books only at this time; media items are not available for loan in this program. 

All CPSLD member library users must follow the policies and regulations of JIBC Library.
