Statistics

In 2007/2008 fiscal year:

  • 44,603 patrons visited our library
  • 71,288 visits were made to our Library website
  • 8,179 books, videos and DVDs were borrowed
  • 3,375 reference questions were answered*

*Reference questions include those handled in-person, sent via email or fax, conducted over the phone or during a virtual reference session. top


Study Rooms

The JIBC Library has study rooms available for student use. These rooms:

  • Seat four to six individuals.
  • Are equipped with an ADSL line (to connect to the Internet) for individuals bringing in their own laptop to work. Wireless is also available throughout the JIBC. Please visit the Library's Circulation Desk to obtain a User ID and Password.
  • Are equipped with TV/VCRs and DVD player for viewing the multi-media collection.

Please note: These rooms can be reserved in 2-hour blocks and may be booked in advance to guarantee availability.

Media Viewing

The JIBC Library has TV/VCRs and DVD players for viewing videos and DVDs.

Computers

The JIBC Library has computers available for student use in the main public area and in the Lab.

Public area computers may be used to conduct research using:

  • The library catalogue.
  • Any of the online article indexes & databases to which the library subscribes.
  • The World Wide Web.

Lab computers may be used to:

  • Conduct research (see Public area computers).
  • Write resumes, essays, and presentations, as these computer have Word, Excel and PowerPoint installed.

One dedicated stand-alone computer is also located in the Library for viewing interactive CDs.

Laptops and Wireless

Four ADSL connections and one modem line are available to provide Internet access for students wishing to use their own laptops. All study rooms are also equipped with ADSL connection.

If your laptop has a wireless card, please request a User ID and Password at the Circulation Desk.

Laptop Lending Program

The JIBC Library lends laptops to students registered in JIBC Certificate/Diploma/Degree Programs, actively taking courses (Library account must be in good standing). Please visit our Laptop Lending Program - F..A.Q.s page for more information about this program.top


Printing & Copying

Library Users can print and/or make photocopies on our self-serve printer (letter size only) and photocopier (single-sided copies only). The price for this service is 10 cents per page.

Faxing

Library staff will fax material, the charges are as follows:

  • Outgoing, local - $1.00 per page
  • Outgoing, long distance - $2.00 per page
  • Incoming, all - $1.00 per page

Cell Phone Use

Cell phone use is prohibited in the Library. While in the Library, patrons must either set their cell phones to low volume or to non-audible signals. Those who fail to comply, may be asked to leave the Library.

Food and Drink

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the Library.
