About Reserves
The Reserve Collection is a compilation
of books and articles, selected by Faculty, that are currently being
used in courses for which a high demand by students is anticipated.
Placing an item on Reserve maximizes the number of students who
can have access the material. Please keep this in mind when determining
the borrowing period for a Reserve. Proceed to Creating
Reserves for additional information.
Alternatively, Faculty may request that an article from one of
the Article Databases that the library subscribes to, be placed
on E-Reserve. This will provide online access to the article, facilitating
ease of access for distance students. This is a very viable solution,
as many of our databases, due to licensing restrictions, do not
allow multiple copies of articles to be made for distribution to
students. Proceed to Creating E-Reserves
for additional information.
Creating Reserves
Step 1:
Complete a "Reserve Books / Articles Form". Click
here to download a pdf version of this form.
Should you have any questions, in regard to the completion of the
form, either send an e-mail
or contact the library directly at 604.528.5599.
Ensure that all sections of the form are completed in regard to:
- Course Name and Number
- Title of Book or
- Title of Article (including publication information: title of
journal, volume/issue, date and page numbers)
- Most articles do not require copyright clearance, however for
those exceptions, copyright clearance must be obtained before
the item is place on Reserve.
- Length of borrowing period allowed for the Reserve (currently
we use 1-day, 3-days, 7-days or 21-days)
- Release date for the Reserve (when material to be removed from
Reserve)
Step 2:
Submit the form to the library.
E-Reserves
Step 1:
Contact Library staff and advise them that you would like to place
an article on E-Reserve. The following information is needed to
proceed:
- Title of article
- Author of article
- Title of journal
- Date published
- Volume and number of issue if available
Step 2:
Library staff will attempt to locate a full-text version of this
article in one of the databases to which the library subscribes.
Upon locating the article, a URL will be created that will allow
students to access it via the proxy server.
The URL will be provided to the Instructor who in turn may place
the URL into the online course or advise students via an alternate
method how to access the link.
Step 3:
In order for the Instructor and students to access the article,
they require a proxy server User ID and Password. Instructors and
Students may visit the library to sign up for the User ID and Password
by completing a Library Off-Campus Online Access Form or, for Distributed
Learning students, the Instructor will arrange for the form to be
completed prior to providing the student with the link. Click
here to download a pdf version of this form.
Should you have any questions, in regard to the completion of the
form, either send an e-mail
or contact the library directly at 604.528.5599.
