There is a growing demand for more professionalism in the fire
service. Advertised vacancies for fire service personnel increasingly
include the requirement for advanced credentials. The Bachelor of
Fire & Safety Studies will assist you, as a member of the fire
service, achieve your career and educational goals while supporting
the broader goal of enhanced community safety. This degree embodies
the transition from the view of the fire service as an “occupation”
to a true “profession”.
The degree develops your technical, managerial, and administrative
competencies so that you will be able to function as an effective
manager in the fire service - and beyond. It has been developed
with you - the adult learner - in mind to help you pursue your education
at your own pace, while you continue to work full time.
Education Path
The Bachelor of Fire & Safety Studies builds on the existing Fire Service Leadership Diploma Program which, in turn, encompasses
the four levels of the Fire Officer Qualifications. Each Fire Officer
level carries the associated certification by the International
Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and/or the National
Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board). Please see the

Accessible
Designed to meet the needs of the working fire service professional,
the degree recognizes both your experience and education in the
fire service:
- Maximum credit transfer – from recognized
post-secondary institutions and Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR).
- Flexible – most of the courses are available
online.
- Self paced – proceed at a pace suitable
to your specific needs. You have eight (8) years to complete the
program.
- Multiple entry and exit points – by incorporating
the Fire Service Leadership Diploma Program you can take as much
as you need when you need it (see our education path).
Affordable
To ensure equal access to all learners:
- All tuition-based courses are competitively priced.
- As the majority of the degree is available online you have
the flexibility of completing course work wherever you're located
saving on travel costs.
- You proceed at your own pace-you can take the courses you need
when they suit your financial situation.
